What are Claude skills?
A skill is a folder with an instruction file (SKILL.md) and sometimes examples or templates. Claude only reads the short description, and pulls in the rest when your request calls for it. That way you can have many skills at once without Claude getting slower or confused.
The difference with a good prompt: you only make a skill once. After that Claude works the same way every time, with your house style, tone and agreements, even when a colleague asks.
Do these skills work in Copilot, ChatGPT and Gemini?
Skills follow an open standard (Agent Skills). Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT and Gemini use the same format, so the same skill can work there too. Whether you can upload a skill depends on your plan and on what your admin has switched on.
